You Never Know

Yo WTF. So ever since backpack/underground began rolling for example like the dudes from Rhymesayers you think these guys are talented right, so why don't they blow up, but subject matter and indie labels just don't make for popular jams. When all the up and comming cats started bumpin like W.A.L.E. no one was sure if he'd blow or if he would be another underground gem well he got hot and the fuck if he ain't showin love to Brother Ali two of my favorite MCs from two worlds of hip hop colliding GOD DAMN its a good day.

I Do Need A Job

Well as times get tough one thing can still make me smile and that is some English, furry hat, velour suite, blinged out, crazy dancing, 90's disco shit, or Jamiroquai yeah. It ain't new but a fuckin good jam that'll cheer you up if you need a job like me (someone should remix this shit).

Is It Boogie'n Or Boogying?

Either way, to quote Craig Mack "time for new flavour for your ear".

First off:

FREEWAY. Yeah, this isn't a new track, but I have been listening to it quite a bit lately and like most things dude has done; it knocks. Don't know if you can "Boogie" to this, maybe just head bob. Intensely.

Freeway ft. Jay-Z - What We Do
|DIV|

I found this track the other day. Along the lines of that The Are joint I posted a while ago. Except with Curtis Mayfield instead of the Jacksons. You could boogie to this.

The Revenge - Curtis |DIV|

I doubt that the Blackbeard that made this track is the same Blackbeard as in the photo. Some funky ass filter shit right here. You could boogie to this (with a peg leg if you wanted to).

Blackbeard - Red Lamp |DIV|

Best house track ever. Hands down. You can quote me on this, I don't mind.

Some cats to watch out for...

This one is by fellow New Yorker "Kill the noise (Nitrus Records)". I played with him and Treasure Fingers (Fool's gold) earlier on in the summer at the Coda club in Montreal and they fucking laid down some knowledge. They've both been making moves, so watch out, they're commin' for you next.

Kill the noise - Pull my strings

The next one is a crazy banger remix by the one and only Laidback Luke. This Treasure fingers (Fool's gold) track has been turning heads like crazy. Try not to sprain yer neck. The original still gets mad love.

Babies Dream Big

A while ago (a long while, sorry Alan) I was contacted by a man named Alan Wilkis who wanted me to listen to his new album "Babies Dream Big". Needless to say I procrastinated, but he kept reminding me to listen to it. Now, some people would be annoyed by that kind of thing, but I think it shows how dedicated he is to his music and after listening to his album, I must say, rightfully so. His album roams from soul to rock and roll, to electronic to pop, and it works. It's really a "feel-good" kind of album and is definitely worth rotating a few times. Alan was nice enough to send me tracks from the album, so check em out.

Local Heat of Yesteryear

Often mistaken as a European (most likely due to his euro-disco sound), Gino Soccio was born in Montreal and still lives in Quebec. He first started making music under the name of Kebekelektrik producing hits like "Magic Fly" and "War Dance", then moving on with a project called Witch Queen and getting a hit with "Bang A Gong". His first major success came with the release of the first album under his own name. The single, "Dancer" from the album "Outline" went to number one. His biggest success came with the came with the release of 1981's "Closer" when disco was nearing its end. The album was more downtempo and closer to what the radio stations (R&B stations) wanted to be playing. "Try It Out' was the first single off of the "Closer" album and grabbed him some rotations on the radio. Soccio released one more album and a few 12"s in the later part of the 80's until he decided to return to being a studio musician and then producer.

If you don't know who that man is up there then give up. "In a Major Way" was E-40's first album with his group "The Click", released in 1995, it started the saga of Charlie Hustle. Deadmau5 is a tech/trance/house from Toronto (via Niagara Falls). He got his first mjor exposure in 2007 when a copy of his "Faxing Berlin" got into the hands of Pete Tong. Since then He's been relasing singles and remixing left and right. He also started his own record label Mau5trap recordings and is bound to drop his album sometime this year. Oh yeah and Tiesto loves him and he works with Tommy Lee on his WTF? project.
Anyways, he recently put out this track alled "Desynchronized" which takes his sound into a new realm with progressive pitching and feedback.

Zapp & Roger Troutman

Zapp was formed in 1978 by the 5 Troutman brothers. They churned out a series of hits and basically inspired the west-coast G-funk sound mainly because of Roger Troutman's unparalleled and incredibly impressive use of the talkbox. Actually, the other night I was playing some zapp songs and this guy kept coming up to me and enthusiastically asking "What's the name of this beat!? This is some real west coast shit!"
Zapp found most of their fame in the 1980's mainly because of Roger's composition "More Bounce To The Ounce" and sold their first album platinum.
They scored a number one spot on the R&B Charts in 1982 with "Dance Floor" and by 1985 had over four gold records.
The 1990's led way to many rap artists sampling Zapp's work, for instance EPMD's "You Gots To Chill" and of course everyone can recognize Roger's talkbox on 2Pac's "California Lovin'"
Zapp disbanded in 199 after Larry Troutman killed his brother Roger and then killed himself.
However, Zapp's sound lives on and their songs are still some of the best dance records of all time.

In, 1972 he composed the soundtrack for one of the first blaxploitation movies called "Trouble Man". The film was part of the blaxploitation boom along with "Superfly", "Shaft", "The Mack" and others. This is one of the pieces he composed for the film.
