Get Down

First off, let's all just go ahead and get our G-Funk on. DJ Apt One is a producer/DJ out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and one half of the Duo known as the Philadelphyinz. He has produced some solid tracks over the years, experimenting with different and diverse styles. This is one of his latest.

Now, on an unrelated note, who wants to guess what Tommy Lee (yes, of Motley Crue) is up to these days? Well, apparently he makes "electronica" and is a superstar DJ.
He is part of a group comprised of Deadmau5, himself and DJ Aero calling themselves WTF?
I know that the Tommy Lee factor may swing you, but listen, you will be happy you did (plus fucking Deadmau5 is involved, come on).

Thud

Sorry for the delay, but I was out of town with an extremely shitty internet connection.

In other news, I'd like to dedicate this post to Bass (the frequency, not the music). It is in every song that we know and love and it is the reason why songs make you want to dance. It's pretty much that simple. Everyone knows the name Tiefschwarz and if you don't then you are about to get familiar (if this isnt enough just google it). I also recently did a post about Fred Falke, this is another joint off the "for my friends" EP. Anyways, both are bass heavy and wonderful.

Don't Mind Me

It has been one interesting weekend ladies and gents... But, extremely fun to say the least. Last night our very own Rilly Guilty and our buddy Mr. Truspin killed it at vinyl here in Montreal (which apparently they did the night before at the W as well). Anyways, congratulations guys.

To get on some music shit, trolling around the internt this past week, I came across the Gaetan remix of Bryan Cox's "Where You At?". Let me get this in quick: it bangs. Bryan Cox is a DJ/Producer from Manhattan who seems to be building a reputation for himself on the international scene with his heavy synth and bass laden tracks.

Bryan Cox - Where You At (Gaetan Remix)

Trouble and Bass are a New York crew who specialize in Bass remixes, fully inspired by the English style. One of their members, Starkey has taken his game to a different level and has put out a whole series of his famous "Street Bass" remixes. This is his remix of Izz Thizz's "Gas Skrape".

Izz Thizz - Gas Skrape (Starkey Remix)

Now, I am a huge fan of the music coming from the bay area, especially the music being made by Charlie Hustle himself, Mr. E-40. I came across his new track with Karizma Kaze this week and was pretty much blown away. The beat is so heavy that it is almost impossible to keep your head from bobbing, hard. E-40 comes with his standard swaggerous delivery and Kaze makes a good showing as well.

Sample Action

I feel like it's time to share the origins of our favorite hip hop some with all of you. Sampling is the key ingredient in Hip Hop production and really can define a producer (think J Dilla, Dan the Automator, Exile, Madlib, etc...) and give them a distinct sound.

Now, everyone has heard "Int'l Players Anthem" by now, and if you haven't listen to it immediately because it was the best song of 2007. This song samples Willie Hutch's "I Choose You" and flips it into one of the best hip hop beats to date. Unfortunately, this year marked the passing of one of hip hop's legends: Pimp C. He has created some of the most influential music in the genre as a part of the duo UGK. I'm glad however, that he had a chance to release that track.

Willie Hutch - I Choose You

All of you probably know 2006's banger "What You Know?" by T.I. with the memorable synth bass/horn combination and the infectious hook. The track comes from Roberta Flack's "Gone Away" and is quite a different style from the original sound.

Roberta Flack - Gone Away

2007 also saw the release of Jay-Z's highly anticipated "American Gangster" album. Not so impressive as was expected there was at least one track that shone on the album, and I'll admit even though I'm an avid Jay-Z hater, that it was hot. That was "Roc Boys". Sampled from the Menahan Street Band's "Make The Road By Walking", Jay showed us that he's still got a little fight left in him.

The Menahan Street Band - Make The Road By Walking

"IT'S 1995...." honestly, who doesn't know the song "Runnin' by Pharcyde? Yeah if you don't once again, Run don't walk to go listen to it. This is J Dilla in his prime.

Stan Getz & Luiz Bonfa - Saudade Vem Correndo

"On the count of three say FUCK THE POLICE..." now if you really don't know the song "Fuck The Police" by J Dilla, then I've lost hope in you. It is possibly one of the most swaggerous songs I have ever heard. (R.I.P. Dilla, his death anniversary was Sunday)

Dj Twitch FUNKFIYA!!!

This is an exclusive! About a month ago I played at the W with Truspin and French Connection (Twitch, Sagewondah, Djewelz). I was in the booth with Twitch as he was dropping his remixes during his set, and the crowds reaction matched mine pretty damn well.

Undeniably funky. I'm going to shut up and let you listen. Drop these at your next jammy and be sure to show him some love on the intranet and in the city. Look out for anything Dj Twitch or French Connection going down in the 514 area.

Oh ya, go peep the track he produced and recorded with Raekwon in his Montreal studio on MySpace.

Peace OUTTT!

Thats Right

Soooooooo,
I though that I would drop some shit that makes you wanna get down or chill the fuck out. Sometimes these things go both ways.

Fred Falke is a man best known for his work with renoun french producer Alan Braxe. But, he can make some really smooth tracks which really make you want to relax with your gal friday.
They also have cool names.

Fred Falke - 8:08 pm @ The Beach

Whitest Boy Alive was a group covered underneath the Erlend Oye post which I did a while ago, but this time what's up on the cutting board is the Krazyfiesta remix of the well known Whistest Boy Alive track "Burning". Krazyfiesta has made some incredible remixes, from Bone Crusher to Juvelen to Lil' Mama. Sadly one of the members recently passed, but that has not stopped the krazy fiesta name from going on.

TOTES AWESOME DOOD

What!? Les Stacks back on track. That's right. Just want to say What up to Trilly good to see him posting again... Anyways, down to business.

Gonna start this one off with a straight classic. Just to get off on the right foot.

Mount Sims - How We Do

You ready yet?
This track is one of my favorite songs of all time. Wille Hutch has soul. He lets you know that he has soul and he will never let you forget it, especially after you hear this. Also, it was the sample for Ghostface's "Back Like That".

Willie Hutch - Baby Come Home

Finally, I really don't think that Rilly Guilty or myself can stress this next song enough. I have listened to countless amounts of times and still absolutely fucking freak out whenever I hear it at a party/club/whatever. This came out during the golden days of Simian Mobile Disco, when they were the only thing you were hearing and you didn't mind either. However, this track kind of slipped under the radar for some, even though it's probably their best piece to date.

Inter Galactic Soul

Two posts in a day? Well when I'm overwhelmed with music and got the itchin' to share we all win!

Dj Spinna has put out hip-hop classics with the likes of anyone of essence in the east coast. Look into his contributions to Rawkus' finest. I've got the Beyond Real released 'Jigmastas - Lyrical Flunctuation' on vinyl and may have to share it one of these days.

In November he released 'Dilla is the G.O.A.T.' an ode to the world's most missed, J-Dilla, on that special 7" format. I got you the title track today, and the b-side is waiting for you when you cop the record.

Dj Spinna - Dilla is the G.O.A.T. (Spot the Phat Kat track that Spinna used for this!)

This track ain't too easy to find... Do your self a favor and go find some more Selan...

Dj Spinna - Back 2 U feat. Selan (The Realm Remix)

And from the Verve Remixed series.

Betty Carter - Naima's Love Song (DJ Spinna Remix)

Convinced yet?

Something about the music....

There is something about Hercules & Love Affair. I would like to think that there music was made in a clandestine laboratory... the same one that produces there music in pill form.

Hercules & Love Affair - Classique #2 (Edit)

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind (Hercules Club Mix)

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind (Frankie Knuckles Remix)

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind (Motik Loc Edit)

Goldfrapp - A and E (Hercules & Love Affair Remix)

...oh that Goldfrapp remix.
